Thabo: Rude Child — Five Minutes of Hand-Drawn Chaos

Berlin DJ and producer Thabo, founder of label Home Again, needed a music video that matched the energy of his track.

This was during the pandemic, when the world was stuck inside, and the concept played directly into that reality. Riechert Studios created a hand-drawn animated music video centered on characters confined to their homes, a direct play on both the label name Home Again and the global lockdown moment. As the video progresses, viewers realize these isolated characters are actually up to something: climbing through each other's windows, sneaking cigarettes on fire escapes, pets wandering onto rooftops. Small rebellions in a boxed-in world.

Hundreds of frames, one world

A music video exploring isolation, connection, and small rebellions.

Approach & Outcome

The animation combined hand-drawn frame-by-frame work with keyframe animations, all composited in a 3D space to give depth and movement to what could have been flat scenes. The result is five minutes that never feel static, a constantly evolving world of interconnected micro-stories.

Beyond the main video, Spotify snippets were also created to extend the animation into social and streaming platforms, giving the release a cohesive visual identity across touchpoints.
